Handicap and Asian handicap betting explained

Handicap betting levels an uneven contest by giving one team a virtual head start or deficit. It turns a lopsided match into a more balanced — and better-priced — bet.

Standard handicap

A favourite at -1 must win by two or more for your bet to land; the underdog at +1 can lose by one and still pay. Three-way handicaps include a handicap draw.

Asian handicap

Asian handicaps remove the draw and can use half and quarter lines (e.g. -0.5, -0.75). Quarter lines split your stake across two handicaps, which can produce a half-win or half-loss. They are popular in football for reducing the ways a bet can lose.

Tip

Asian lines reward judging margins, not just winners. Start with simple -0.5/+0.5 lines before using quarter handicaps. 18+ only.
